I asked for and gathered improvisations from nine musicians that I felt would help and facilitate the vision I had for this project. These improvisations then were edited and arranged into what would become the pieces for Coalesce

The idea began in December 2021, but it wasn’t until next January and February when I had started to find a deeper meaning of what it is and the title which was inspired by a conversation that I had heard where my friend Catriona Sturton used the word “Coalesce”

In the context of this album, Coalesce is a word used for consolation

In August, I began working on another album titled Ephemeral that I had written music for but it eventually disintegrated and parts of it were inherited by Coalesce that you can hear on the album

I came across Wendy Eisenberg’s music in November 2021 as I was few weeks into working on my fourth record Trellis. They have been a profound influence on me since, and in addition to their wonderful contribution for this project, a lot of what became Coalesce was influenced by them
